Andalucía: A Personal Photographic Series

“My object is merely to give the reader a general introduction into an abode where, if so disposed, he may linger and loiter with me day by day until we gradually become familiar with all its localities.”- (Washington Irving, Tales of the Alhambra)

                                                    Granada's own, lost and found

I was advised by our Spanish guide to take a photo of this statue from "a more appeasing viewpoint" and block out the 'Bauhaus' styled tower block flats behind. Yet I took it anyway to appease myself and my increasing love of unorthodox composition, in an attempt to abate this architectural fissure in Granada. The stateliness of the statue seemed to be creating a strong counterpoint with its flagged backdrop as a mark of a synthesis of patriotism from both past and present Spain.

Ni Una Menos, Not One Less- "No more machista violence"

“It was in Spain that [my generation] learned that one can be right and yet be beaten, that force can vanquish spirit, that there are times when courage is not its own recompense. It is this, doubtless, which explains why so many, the world over, feel the Spanish drama as a personal tragedy.” - (Albert Camus)
